Greg Bell, CSP

Bell will inspire you to reexamine your personal and professional dreams while creating value for your colleagues and customers. In what has become his most popular presentation, he will demonstrate how adopting the mindset of the bamboo farmer can transform your life and those around you in amazing ways. Giant timber bamboo grows with astonishing speed and strength; however, such growth only comes as a result of the bamboo farmer faithfully watering the bamboo over time until it can establish deep and resilient roots. We all can become bamboo farmers, nurturing the qualities of patience, courage, self-discipline, persistence and belief. Leave this session with core values that will lead to profound growth and the secret formula for peak performance.

Bell is a thought leader, business consultant, motivational speaker and leadership seminar trainer. His popular book, “Water the Bamboo: Unleashing the Potential of Teams and Individuals,” has inspired an array of organizations, from Fortune 500 companies like Nike and Disney to athletic teams like the Portland Trailblazers. An innovator and keen observer of highly successful leaders, Bell's ability to masterfully blend insight and encouragement with just the right dose of reality makes him the consistently top-rated keynote speaker at major conferences. He holds political science and law degrees from the University of Oregon. He is also the force behind Coaches vs. Cancer — a campaign for the American Cancer Society that has raised more than USD 87 million for cancer research.

The Power of Storytelling

Because we’re all emotional creatures, storytelling is the most influential form of communication. Bennett provides attendees with the mindset and toolset to leverage this communication strategy and sell effectively through storytelling. The underlying principle behind storytelling is that it’s not about you; it’s about the other person. Bennett shows you how your story impacts clients and influences the sales decision. You will learn to humanize your message, create balance between credibility and relatability and engage the emotional and creative side of your clients’ brains.

When Bennett was 21 years old, he and his brother Scott started a business in direct sales, which they built to over USD 20 million in annual revenue while still in their 20s. As a young entrepreneur, Bennett continues to engage his team’s focus to grow sales. He has developed more than 500 sales managers globally with sales and leadership in 37 countries. In his talks, Bennett uses the power of influence and storytelling to provide audiences with tangible techniques that will increase their influence and their impact as leaders and as salespeople.

The Transformational Impact of Art in K-12 Education

The arts are valuable and are an important component of any well-rounded education. The significance of arts education lies in its transformative power, offering students opportunities to experience their creativity and unlock their creative and academic potential. At Inner-City Arts, students are encouraged to take risks, learn new modes of self expression, build self-confidence and develop 21-century skills such as collaboration, creativity and critical thinking. The arts are not only important to the emotional development of students, they also have great effect on academic outcomes. Studies have shown that low-income students who are highly engaged in the arts are more likely to graduate high school and twice as likely to graduate college as their peers with no arts education. By providing and advocating for equitable access to arts education for our youth— especially those most underserved—we can continue to build a more creative, productive, inclusive and empowered society.

Smiland became president and CEO of Inner-City Arts in July 2013 after nearly three decades of service as a volunteer and board member for multiple youth service and educational nonprofit organizations. He began his career as CEO of the family-owned Smiland Paint Company, which he led for 25 years, growing it into an USD 88 million business with more than 400 employees. He served as vice chair of the board of the Los Angeles Metropolitan YMCA from 1996 to 2002, and was chair of the board of trustees of the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles from 1992 to 1998. In 2010, he co-founded Extera Public Schools, charter schools that serve elementary age children in his native neighborhood of Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles. Smiland has an in-depth understanding of how nonprofits thrive and a passion for education reform.

Change is Mandatory; Stress is Optional

Change is something we all have to deal with, but the stress that accompanies change is more of choice. In this heavily researched session, Wynn applies his signature humor to a very serious topic. This fun, comprehensive program offers tools and tips for getting through big change with very little stress. More importantly, it creates an emotional shift for attendees as they see how much control they have over how change affects them. This session also shows attendees how stress is more about what we believe than what is actually happening. From embracing big transitions in technology to dealing with growth or downsizing, this presentation helps leaders, employees and customers implement necessary changes with minimal resistance.

With talents that established him as a Fortune 500 leader and professional standup comedian,Wynn fuses comic timing and research to deliver motivational business expertise. For 20 years, he has given keynote presentations to clients (such as American Express, Wells Fargo, Oracle and NASA) at corporate and association events. He is the author of the Amazon bestsellers “The Real Truth about Success” and “The Cowbell Principle.” He has been a weekly contributor to the Washington Post and has been featured in Forbes and Inc. magazines.

Over the past 24 years, Life Insurance Settlements, Inc (LIS) has become synonymous with success in the life settlement industry. Our leverage, experience and presence are unmatched in the settlement industry. We specialize in appraising life insurance policies insuring seniors for their true market value: i.e., the amount a third party would be willing to give the owner of a policy over and above the insurance company’s cash surrender value.  LIS is a broker that will present your case to the most qualified institutional buyers in the marketplace and will negotiate the highest settlement appraisal on behalf of you and your client.

MDRT Foundation

During the 2017 Top of the Table Annual Meeting, the MDRT Foundation is partnering with Inner-City Arts. Inner-City Arts is a not-for-profit organization that offers expansive arts education programs for youth and educators to create lasting personal and social change. Located in L.A.’s Skid Row, one of the most socioeconomically challenged communities in the United States, Inner-City Arts immerses its students in a safe and supportive environment where they engage in a variety of visual and performing art forms in studio and theater settings.

Children who attend Inner-City Arts develop skills that are highly valued in the 21st-century workforce such as collaboration, creativity and critical thinking. Inner-City Arts’ services include classes during the instructional day for elementary students, after-school, weekend and summer workshops for teens, and creativity-based professional development for educators.

During the Top of the Table meeting, the MDRT Foundation will raise funds for Inner-City Arts and share their efforts to create a safer, healthier Los Angeles.

From Main Platform, Bob Smiland, Inner-City Arts CEO, will discuss the importance of arts and self-expression in the growth of young minds and how Inner-City Arts is changing the paths for so many young Angelenos who are in need of support and guidance. Smiland brings more than 30 years of business experience as a CEO, executive and chairman for private and public companies. To learn more, visit inner-cityarts.org.
